Lead Service Line Inventory Begins July 15, 2024

Over the next several weeks a city contractor along with city staff will be conducting an audit for the EPA required Lead Service Line Inventory program in San Antonio. This federally mandated audit is a new requirement for all potable water utilities throughout the United States. The cost of this audit is being underwritten by the Florida Rural Water Association.

The scope of their data collection may include, but not be limited to, digging in and around water meter boxes, taking photographs of water meters and their adjacent service lines, and pinning GPS points to each meter’s exact location. In many cases, the nature of their work will require them to enter properties to access the meter. Moreover, their focus will be primarily in the older parts of the San Antonio water utility. In most cases, residents of newer neighborhoods will not require on-site auditing.
